Following a tragic ATV accident, my brother-in-law was flown to Deaconess in critical condition. As an ICU nurse myself, I was terrified. I made the drive from St. Louis to Evansville, arriving at 3 AM where I met Sam at his bedside. She recognized my struggles as I sat with him unable to sleep - working through the "what if" scenarios over-and-over in my mind. Sam comforted me with her clinical confidence and compassion as a human being. Sam was there to listen and show compassion in a way that goes beyond words.
