I've been practicing Hospital Medicine for 20 years, so I like to believe I have a credible opinion regarding caring for hospitalized patients. UTMC is blessed with an exceptional nursing staff (one of several reasons that I continue to drive every month from Chattanooga, to see patients here). Sami is exceptional!
Faced with an obviously dying patient and a bereft family, she was an angel of compassion! You can learn lots of things in school and training, but "true" compassion and love of your fellow man are gifts from God.
I want to personally thank Sami for the love she showed this family in their very dark hour, and for reminding me of the importance of our role to alleviate pain and suffering. Watching her "care" was inspiring and uplifting. Sami can care for my patients or my family anytime.
