It is with great pride that I nominate Samantha Colson for the DAISY Award. She consistently demonstrates clinical excellence, empathy, and a deep commitment to collaboration that sets her apart as a leader in patient-centered care. What makes Samantha truly exceptional is her ability to build meaningful relationships not only with patients, but also with their families and the healthcare team. She recognizes that healing is a collaborative process, and she approaches every situation with open communication, compassion, and respect. Families often comment on how supported they feel under her care. Whether explaining complex and sensitive situations in understandable terms, addressing concerns with patience, or simply being a calm and steady presence during times of crisis, Samantha creates a sense of trust and partnership that is invaluable to both patients and loved ones. A powerful example of Samantha going above and beyond is in her care of the vulnerable mental health population. On numerous occasions, she has selflessly laundered patients’ clothing and brought them back the following day, so they had the very basic necessities that bring comfort and humanity in a difficult situation. Samantha also volunteers her time to promote our organization in the community and provide life-saving education through hands-only CPR and naloxone demonstrations. She has the ability to communicate with people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds within our community, ensuring inclusivity in the trainings. Samantha demonstrates passion in her profession and is always studying, taking classes, or reading journals to stay on the cutting edge of emergency medicine. She frequently reviews patient scenarios or case studies with the team and debriefs to celebrate what the team has done well and identify ways that we could improve care delivery at our facility. Samantha exemplifies what it means to provide holistic, collaborative care. She elevates the entire healthcare experience through expertise, teamwork, and heart. It is for these reasons and many more that I wholeheartedly recommend her for the DAISY Award.
