I want to tell you about Sam. My parents and I hadn’t talked in over a year. When I got a text from my father, I came to see my mom at the hospital. That’s when I met Sam. The level of compassion and love for others was overwhelming, and almost unbelievable. From the way she treated my mother (a patient) to my father. When Sam entered my mom’s room, it was like a rainbow came in. She has a very upbeat personality that just infected the whole room. The interaction between Mom and Sam made me feel that there was truly someone there who cared. She had a silent strength that kept my mom fighting and a beautiful respect for others.

When I first showed up not knowing anything about the situation, Sam sat with me and walked me through everything she knew that had happened. She got a meeting with the doctor and many nurses and staff all together so I could ask questions about mom’s care. The level of respect that she showed for my father, from how she talked to him and treated him and how she used a kind word in a stressful minute, sometimes changed the course of the whole day. A friendly hug might ease 30 seconds of pain.

As for my mom, Sam got her to where she’s at today, from cleaning up her accident in the bed to making her eat. From the strength in Sam’s eyes and compassion in her touch, I feel that she is a great, wonderful, awesome, compassionate person.

As far as a nurse, Sam is an angel. She not only heals the body but helps mend your soul. Everyone around her, not just patients.
