Sam was exemplary at staying on top of my meds, remembering specific ways she could make me most comfortable, and thinking of extra things she could do to care for me. She took the time to listen, try to understand my preferences and values, and advocated for me while looking out for my health and explaining what she could do along the way. Even when she wasn’t my nurse, she took the time to check on me and chat when she had the chance.

Sam was my first nurse during my 10-day hospital stay. One evening, in particular, even though she wasn’t my nurse at the time, we were at a critical decision-making juncture for my long-term health and had asked my current nurse to reach out to the doctor. Sam stopped by just to check in on me and since we’d been waiting for quite some time, we asked if she’d help us get ahold of the doctor. She stuck her neck out for us and messaged him. As she was walking out the door, she got a message back saying the doctor would be down in a few minutes. She even stepped in when we needed another advocate, but thankfully the doctor is phenomenal and patiently listened and respected our concerns. Out of gratitude and appreciation, we got her flowers, and we certainly think she is a true DAISY Nurse.
