I am nominating Samantha for her excellent patient care, which led to the quick diagnosis and treatment of a stroke. Samantha was working in IMCU when a rapid response was called on 8 Main. The patient was brought up from the IR after having received a thoracentesis.

Samantha immediately noticed that the patient had major facial drooping upon arrival to the room and immediately called another rapid to initiate our inpatient stroke protocol. The patient was rushed to CT, and it was noted she did have an embolic stroke and was taken to IR to have a thrombectomy performed.

The patient’s procedure was a success, and the patient was discharged home a few days later. If it had not been for Samantha’s quick actions, this patient’s outcome could have looked very different. This is a perfect example of putting patient-centered care first and how we can positively impact every life we touch.
