I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Samantha Hinrichs for the DAISY Award. Samantha is, without a doubt, the most thoughtful, caring, and empathetic nurse I have encountered. Her dedication to her patients’ comfort and well-being deserves to be recognized. I recently underwent a major surgery, which was also the first surgery of my life. As you can imagine, my nerves were incredibly high. From the moment Samantha was assigned to me, she made it her mission to make sure I felt safe, informed, and calm. Samantha’s exceptional care included proactive communications where she met me in pre-op and explained every step that would happen. This upfront communication was vital in easing my anxiety. Her care extended right up to the minute I drifted off to sleep. As I was positioned on the table, Samantha stood next to me, talking about her son and my non-traditional family. This simple, personal conversation was a brilliant distraction that kept my mind off my fear. She was an absolute anchor in a moment of great vulnerability. She exhibited genuine empathy and dedication. She did everything she could to make me feel comfortable, and by talking to me through every part she could. She successfully calmed my nerves during this major life event. Samantha is an outstanding example of the profound impact a nurse can have on a patient's experience. She turned my experience into one where I felt supported and genuinely cared for. Thank you for recognizing the difference she makes.
