Last week I came in for a couple of procedures, not new to me but for some reason I was anxious, worried and a bit scared the day before my appointment. On the morning of, I wasn't feeling any better. When my husband and I arrived to check in, the security guard said, don’t even sit down, these Nurses come to get you so fast, they’re really good. Not 3 minutes later an RN walked in, smiling with her eyes and having the most caring and calming demeanor. We chatted all the way up to the floor where she proceeded to do her duties to prepare me for my procedures. She did so with expertise, all the while, making me feel more comfortable and less anxious. She listened to my concerns and answered every question, kept me warm, and off I went. When I returned to recover, there were those smiling eyes again. The room was full of patients, but you’d never know that as her attention was all on me. Maya Angelou said, “At the end of the day, people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” This nurse pulled me out of a dark hole that I didn’t realize I was in. She will forever be my favorite nurse. The nurse’s name is Samantha Kerr, from CVOU.
