Samantha is a source of inspiration to those that work with her and meet her in the clinical role.
It is my honor to nominate Samantha Lane for a DAISY Award for her excellence in nursing. I have the pleasure of working with Samantha in the Medical ICU (MICU) on 7NS at Banner University Medical Center – Tucson. Samantha is the kind of nurse that many of us look to for guidance as she is approachable, kind, and knowledgeable. Her levelheadedness and calm demeanor are what I have come to admire about her, especially when I need her assistance with something complicated.

Samantha is a dependable colleague, a charge nurse for the unit, and a preceptor to new nurses on 7NS. In 2023, Samantha joined the MICU Shared Leadership Committee, and her suggestions and input have led to significant improvements in unit morale. She brings wisdom and thoughtfulness to the meetings, and her presence is a pleasure to be around. Her positive attitude keeps us grounded, and her playful spirit helps to bring many smiles to the staff.

As a charge nurse, Samantha is a fair colleague and a compassionate coworker who brings reason and thoughtfulness to the role. When she is called upon to act as a liaison between the patient, their family, and the nurse caring for them, she speaks eloquently and shows great compassion for everyone involved. Her composure and resourcefulness inspire me.

When Samantha isn’t working on 7NS as an ICU nurse, she can be found guiding new nursing students into the profession as a clinical instructor. To see her in that element is such a treat, as she continues to inspire the student nurses that she works with and treats them with honesty and respect. Samantha recently accepted a role as one of Banner’s ECMO nurses and has been an incredible resource to both 7NS and 6NS the CVICU.

Samantha is a source of inspiration to those that work with her and meet her in the clinical role. Her efforts around the unit to recognize the team not just as nurses and techs, but as people with families and lives outside of work, has been an inspiration to a unit that has been struggling to rediscover who they are after the pandemic. For example, she recently decorated the break room with submitted photos for both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, and it was so much fun to see the employees ask questions and interact with each other. She has motivated the staff to come together and acknowledge each other as equals sharing the same journey.
