My son interacted with Sami more than any other nurse. She was genuinely great with him and I will be forever grateful.
Sami came into my son's room around 11 am on a day when my son had not been taking his oral antibiotic very well at all. He had been spitting it out and had a horrid night. Sami asked if he would take his medicine mixed in with chocolate pudding. I said he loves chocolate and it is worth a try. She grabbed some pudding for us and he took it like a champ from that point forward. Another nurse had said there was no way to mix the medicine and lamented that it tasted horrible. Sami, who said she worked in the pediatric ER a lot, said that she routinely told parents to get some Hershey's syrup or pudding. She was a lifesaver. I really thought we were going to be in the hospital for several days if my son continued to refuse his medication.
She chatted with me when I needed to talk and told me that her brother had just received a kidney transplant. My son interacted with Sami more than any other nurse he encountered. She let him squirt water in a syringe and click the protective casing off of the thermometer. She was genuinely great with him and I will be forever grateful. She made his hospital stay better and he has taken his medicine with pudding at home without issue. She was also very attentive to his IV, flushing it many times to make sure it was properly working. She spent a lot of time getting rid of the bubbles in his fluid line. She seemed to care about and enjoy my son and was a very comforting presence.
