My mother was in the ER and has difficulty giving blood. The other staff were not getting the jist that she is a different stick so about 1 AM Sam was given the case. She did an ultra sound to find a vein to draw blood. She did an amazing job from the time she took over after hours of being there and others not accomplishing anything. She showed such compassion and caring for my mom. This eased my anger/anxiety. As an employee who knows we are a caring group this made me proud.
Today Samantha went well above and beyond. Patient arrived during the nightshift. Samantha had assisted with caring for this patient prior to the change of shift. As she was driving home she realized that the patient was a neighbor of hers. She said they were not close neighbors, rather they occasionally waved at each other when they were passing. She did know they had an MRDD son that lived with them. She spoke with her husband and decided to stop at the patient's house on the way home. The wife was not fully aware of the seriousness of her husband's condition and further expressed concern that she could not leave her son at home alone. Samantha took it upon herself for her and her husband to accompany the wife back to the ER and assist with their son while the wife was able to spend time at her husband's bedside. Samantha by far exceeded any expectations that the hospital would expect from a nurse. She provided the type of compassionate care that we all would be fortunate to receive if we found ourselves in a similar situation. Acions such as hers provide a solid reason for recognition at the highest levels.
