I've been a patient of Northwestern Urology since 2018 and have had a consistent treatment and visit schedule since. Throughout my life, I have been a frequent visitor to hospitals due to various injuries, illnesses, and whatnot so I've had my share of experiences, both good and bad, with caregivers. Samantha has a gift. If you were to put the task of the assembly of a perfect person to be a caregiver, there is no doubt that the finished product would not even come close to what she provides. The ability to explain things, the ability to perform her duties with excellence and efficiency, punctuated by the rare and priceless ability to make what would normally be a very uncomfortable situation, very tolerable. She brings a warmth and compassion that few can ever compare. I reach out on numerous occasions with questions about very specific things, whether treatment-related or illness related, I receive near-immediate responses with researched and specific information. That's for a specific situation, the specificity of it continues from visit to visit or from test to test, or from treatment to treatment. I get very anxious and I reach out with "what ifs". Though she is so kind to address my questions, she reassures me that plans are in place for everything that could possibly happen. After a recurrence last year, an immediate plan was explained to me as well as my situation not being rare. Common recurrences and treatment protocols to address them are already in place, and I trust her. I am very very happy with the care that I receive at that office and it is in no small part to the care that Samantha specifically provides. I am not an easy patient. I come with anxiety, questions, nervousness, impatience, and frustration sometimes. All of those may be annoying to some but are managed effortlessly by this wonderful Nurse. Samantha sets the standard. And if she is the example that Northwestern strives to achieve, then you would be foolish not to give her this award. She exemplifies what it is to be a nurse, a caregiver, and a member of an extraordinary care team. I appreciate this opportunity to express and nominate Samantha Steinke. It is my honor to do so.
