There have been many instances when Samantha has shown compassion and strong patient advocacy skills. In one particular situation, she recognized a change in someone who was to be discharged on hospice the next day. The patient had become restless and was in pain. She notified the physician and the hospice agency on off-hours and was able to facilitate the orders necessary to make him comfortable. The agency was also able to come in and begin inpatient hospice that evening and support the family as well as the patient.
This is not a complex story but one that deserves recognition. I know if she had reached any road blocks that evening she would have continued to pursue the correct actions to make sure the patient and family received what they needed that night.
I am proud to call her a colleague and it is wonderful to see the compassion and excellence that she is providing to our patients and families.
