Samantha has incredible patience and empathy for her patients. Her bedside manner is uniformly professional and kind, even when dealing with the most difficult patients. Similarly, she has great patience for families coping with the illness and death of their loved ones and has even developed a "grieving packet" for them with a rich selection of resources to help them during a difficult time. In contentious situations, she always finds a way to see things from the other person's perspective and to understand not only what they want/need, but why they want or need it. She goes out of her way to help colleagues and coworkers as well, both at work and outside of work. Meanwhile, her clinical knowledge and leadership are impressive, with DNET/diabetes expertise, a role in designing the current MD orders forms, and roles on committees to improve pharmacy communication and the use of restraints. Overall, Samantha makes Harborview a better, safer, more healing place to work and to be a patient.
