I believe Sam went above and beyond for this patient, to make them comfortable, understand what was happening when, and prioritized all the way through.
Sam went above and beyond for one of our hearing-impaired patients. Our patient was severely hearing impaired and did not know any sign language. This patient recently had their hearing aids go missing at the assisted living facility they are at and has been struggling to get new ones covered. Sam took it upon herself to write out a multi-step instructional on what was going to happen before, during, and after the Cath procedure as if she was speaking directly to the patient. She made sure that the font was also big enough so that this specific patient could also read it without issue or assistance. During the procedure she also had different signs made up for when she had to ask if the patient was experiencing any pain or if they were comfortable. I believe Sam went above and beyond for this patient, to make them comfortable, understand what was happening when, and prioritized all the way through. What we do before and during heart cauterizations can be very scary and intimidating to most of our patients who come through here. There are lots of hands on them getting them ready for the procedure as soon as they come in the room, and she did everything to keep this patient's mind at ease. Seeing Sam typing up the multi-page paper between patients so that this individual could fully know what was going to happen before hand was inspirational, heartwarming, and an example of impeccable nursing!
