Samiah Nelson, RN

Samiah made what we consider the most horrific and unthinkable experience of our lives as smooth and seamless as humanly possible. She handled our experience with compassion and professionalism that we cannot put into words and truly made us feel comforted during the most devastating time of our lives.
My husband and I found out that my water had broken early. I then went into labor around 1 am about a day or so later, and came to the hospital to deliver our beautiful baby girl. We learned upon arrival that she was no longer with us and that I would be delivering a stillborn. Samiah’s care gave us a comfort I cannot describe. She talked us through every single step and reviewed our options with us over and over as many times as we needed. She personally helped to clean and turn over a room so that we could have privacy during our heartache. She never once made us feel like any request or question was too much and made us feel as though we were her primary concern and priority when I am sure she had other patients that she was also caring for. She held my hand alongside my husband as I delivered our baby, and she told us right away how beautiful she was. She treated her with dignity and respect and understood the immense grief and heartbreak that we were going through. She cared for our baby girl as if she were the most important baby in the world, and we are eternally grateful. Further, she comforted my parents and brother who had spent all night in the waiting room. She held my mom in the hallway as she wept while we said goodbye to our baby. She explained to them everything she had already explained to us and was patient with them and their questions.
There just really are no words to convey how comforted and safe she made us feel during the absolute worst moments of our lives. If we ever have a future pregnancy, we will be praying that it is Samiah who is on shift to take care of us again. She is extraordinary and deserves all the recognition that she can get.
