Samira exemplifies all the qualities of a DAISY Nurse, including the compassion, kindness, and trust she displays to her patients and families. One particular story shows this when she took care of a patient who was recently diagnosed with cancer. This patient was anxious about her diagnosis and being in the hospital, but once they met Samira, they felt more comfortable because Samira made it a more enjoyable experience for her patient by telling her jokes and making her laugh. Their relationship grew after this when they learned they had common interests, such as cooking, and they could exchange and talk about food recipes. The patient enjoyed her so much she started calling Samira "Dr. Sam." Even the patient's daughters grew to love Samira, and with both being retired nurses, they saw how great she was to their mom and requested Samira be her nurse if she was scheduled to work. Whenever her patient was unsure or uneasy about her treatment, Samira was there to encourage and comfort her. Once, the patient was refusing blood for the second time, and Samira was able to change her mind and even sat with her for 30 minutes while the transfusions were running to make her more comfortable. She is also thorough and clear with her patients as well, telling them what medication she is giving them. She suggested changing a Norco tablet to tramadol for this particular patient, which they appreciated because they saw an improvement in energy levels and walking. All of this and more shows the impact Samira makes in taking care of her patients.

Thank you, Samira, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
