Nurse Grafton is the most caring healthcare worker I came across in SCCC. He cares for all of his patients as if they're his family and in a very professional manner. He has extraordinary clinical skills, he has the knowledge to evaluate a patient in the pre-op area and assist the physicians and fellow nurses. I have observed him with many patients and he is always the same extraordinary, compassionate nurse. One example to describe his skills was when he was preparing an elderly patient for a procedure. This patient was confused so he made sure that a family member who knew her medications and health issues was present for the OR staff to answer their questions. He already knew who that person would be and he also asked proper questions about the patient's cardiac problem as if he were evaluating the patient in the cardiology clinic. Then he made sure that the patient's son would come in and speak with the OR staff while other personnel were looking into charts and asking medical questions to the patient's son. Sam took a few minutes to gently tap the patient's head, smiling and told her what was happening in a calm and compassionate manner. He makes sure that every patient, young or old gets the best treatment on the day of their surgery. His fellow nurses respect him and value him. I heard one nurse saying "There is no IV line Sam cannot handle, he is the best".
