October 2016 Honoree
samuel rowe, BSN, RN
I sat with a patient as a constant attendant for 12 hours and saw Sam consistently checking in on the patient, doing the proper clinical care. But what impressed me so much with Sam was his ability to show tremendous patience and compassion to a 16-year-old young man who was very scared. He offered a calming reassurance and patient explanations of what transferring to Kettering Behavioral would be like, really helped this young man. He also repeatedly checked on me as the CA, making sure I had lunch and asking me if I needed a break, thanking me for helping out in the unit. I saw Sam consistently working with his peers in this same, calm, comfortably confident manner. Sam demonstrated the best of Dayton Children's compassionate care, going above and beyond what many would do, but doing it in such a way as to make the extraordinary, seem ordinary for him. He is an inspiration to me.
Thank you, Samuel, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
