A patient had especially high praise for Samuel Rowe, RN, and noted that on the day of discharge, he spent a significant amount of time teaching her how to properly use the incentive spirometer. She took his instructions seriously, and as a result, her cough and breathing have improved dramatically. At discharge, she was saturating 89%-91% on room air. After several days of consistent spirometer use, along with her medications, she is now saturating 95%-97%. She credits the spirometer—and Samuel’s thorough instruction—for much of this improvement. She remains diligent with her daily use and expressed deep gratitude for the time and care Samuel gave her, emphasizing how it helped her actively participate in her recovery.
