At almost 57 years old I had never stayed overnight in a hospital. And the first time I did it was right after getting a cancer diagnosis. So it would not be the truth to say I wasn't a little scared. But Samy had such a reassuring way about her. Her calming influence made such a difference in the way I felt. Even in the middle of the night when Samy had to come in and check my vitals she would make it a more gentle process. I would wake up to her just rubbing my arm and talking in whispers before turning on the lights for the vitals. Little things like that made such a difference. She would ask how I was doing knowing that she was asking more about my mental state than the medical aspects. She would offer to just talk if I needed to. Samy was able to make a roller coaster of a week so much more tolerable. I hope anyone who is ever in that same position has someone like Samy in their corner. She has truly found her calling and is the gold standard in nursing.
