My husband, was in and out of Queens Medical Center many times during 2015 -2017. He is a 74 year old cancer patient with a hard complicated recovery. As his wife and guardian, it has been my pleasure to meet many of the wonderful nurses who cared for him at Queens during the 2 year period.
Sandi Paupe is a friendly, bubbly, thoughtful, caring and kind lady who does nursing duties in a timely, efficient, detailed manner. She quickly took care of any mess my husband made in bed, kept him clean and constantly checked the monitors on his status. Sandi was very informative and would point out any changes in BP/HR/oxygen readings etc. She compared it to the day before and reasons why additional medications are being given, which was very helpful for someone like me (cautiously looking at the many bags hanging for IV poles and not knowing what they are for). It is nice when a nurse explains what each bag contains and what kind of prescribed medications and injections she is administering.
Sandi took the time to sit next to me and ask if I was worried and if I wanted questions answered by physicians. She was encouraging and understanding when she saw that I was holding back tears the best I could/silently crying watching my husband suffer struggling to breathe after several days on maximum oxygen/antibiotics trying to bring inflammation in his lungs down. Sandi eased my own personal suffering with her caring and kindness, and I am truly thankful to have met such a wonderful nurse at Queen's ICU.
