My husband and I were blessed to have Sandi as our nurse for the majority of our stay post-delivery. What started as an excellent pregnancy and labor turned into quite a stressful experience as we were rushed into an ASAP C-section after 12 hours of laboring because our baby would not drop and was showing signs of distress. Immediately after delivery, our son was taken into the NICU for treatment and observation due to access liquid in his lungs. As first time parents, this was not the labor and delivery we were expecting and we had so many questions and concerns.
On night three of our stay, we were thrilled to find out that our son was being released from NICU and could finally join us in our mommy and baby suite! That night, we were introduced to our saving grace - Nurse Sandi. Because of our emergent delivery and status post-delivery, we did not have much time to bond or learn newborn care skills. She changed all that for us and made our experience at the Hospital one we will never forget. We delivered during the COVID-19 Global Pandemic and due to this, we could not have any visitors including our moms - whom we felt we really needed during this time. She immediately took on a nurturing role to both me and my husband and we felt instantly connected. She took the time to talk to us about parenting, teach us techniques that are invaluable and that we will use forever, and the time to get to know both as patients and my husband as a new father. When our son was crying or uncomfortable she took the time to really examine him, help identify his needs and used critical and creative thinking skills to address them. Observing her alone has already taught us so much as new parents and really set the stage for me on how a calm, collected, and thoughtful nature is key to being a successful parent.
She turned an initially traumatic experience for us into one of the best experiences of our lives. We will forever be thankful for her care, and our son will know her name when we tell him about his labor and delivery. She has a true calling, and we feel so blessed that we got to receive her care while patients. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!
