Sandie Cummings, RN, BSN, RNC-NIC, CCRN
When our twin girls were born nine weeks early, we were terrified and didn’t know what to expect. Upon entering their room in the NICU, their nurse, Sandie greeted us with a calm and friendly demeanor that instantly put us at ease.
Sandie was extremely knowledgeable and explained the ins and outs of the girls’ isolettes and the care they would be receiving. She also encouraged and supported us nervous parents through our first “hand hugs” and “kangaroo care” with our 3 lb. and 4 lb. preemies. Sandie continues to care for our girls several weeks later and is attentive to their needs while advocating on their behalf when we’re unable to be at the NICU. She has quickly learned our daughters’ quirks and antics and knows them as well as we do, which always puts our minds at ease when she’s assigned to them.
In addition to being a wonderful caregiver and knowledgeable resource to us, she is extremely selfless and a team player, consistently picking up shifts on her days off and working doubles all with a positive attitude and smile on her face. She has become a part of our family and we couldn’t ask for a more friendly, attentive, and supportive NICU nurse.
