Sandy is a senior nurse looking to retire in about a year. I’ve been a paramedic for going on 30 years, and well, sometimes, as we further in time, we forget why we do what we do. The two nights, I was witness to the caring and compassion of my roommate. He had an accident in the middle of the night, and she just did what she did and made him feel that it wasn’t a big deal. She took the extra time to ensure that she understood when he wanted his night-time medications. She made sure she passed this down in front of him so he knew she didn’t forget. She just went above and beyond what I would even expect. The nursing profession will surely miss her when she leaves. Just as an observer, I was touched.
