Sandra was our night nurse for several nights, which at night is a vulnerable time for all. She has such compassion and shows it to us always.
I am a 73-year-old woman in the hospital with my husband of 53 years. He was diagnosed with throat cancer and was in hospital for surgery. He has been my whole life, we have 3 children and 9 grandchildren together. I met him on my first day of college. We have a true love story so you can imagine how hard this was on both of us. There’s a lot of fear and uncertainty.
Sandra was our night nurse for several nights, which at night is a vulnerable time for all. She has such compassion and shows it to us always. Her communication skills are wonderful, which I think is the most important thing. Her knowledge of our situation was spot on and could help us understand with our limited medical knowledge. She had great patience and was never rattled by anything. She never made us feel like she was in a hurry to be anywhere else.
She also always came in a timely manner. Anyone who has been in the hospital knows how one minute seems like an hour when you’re waiting. She also was professional in every aspect of her job.
I guess the end of the story will tell it all. My husband always held his finger up and said, “She is number one with me.”
Thank God for nurses like Sandra.
