Looking back at the experiences I faced in these two years, I could have seen myself spiraling into a world of depression, but because of Sandy and her caring actions, I truly believe that she saved my life emotionally before anything could even happen to me.
Two years later and I still think about how Sandy changed my life with her kindness. I remember waking up in the hospital room not understanding what happened to me. Sandy was one of the first people I saw when I woke up, and I remember feeling at peace around her. I had just learned that my leg had been amputated after my motorcycle accident, and yet, somehow, I still felt calm around her. She quickly learned that I was finishing my EMT training and assured me that even with an amputation, I would still be able to fulfill my dreams. She went above and beyond and connected me with a deputy sheriff who is also an amputee and allowed me to realize that my dreams could still come true. Sandy helped me realize that my life was not over because I lost a limb. The last two years could have been the worst two years of my life if Sandy had not been there. Looking back at the experiences I faced in these two years, I could have seen myself spiraling into a world of depression, but because of Sandy and her caring actions, I truly believe that she saved my life emotionally before anything could even happen to me. She is a part of my healing process, and if there is anybody who deserves a DAISY Award, it is definitely Sandy Nahom. She encompasses everything it means to be a nurse and definitely exemplifies the mission, vision, and values of Cedars-Sinai Nursing. Thank you, Sandy, for your quick critical thinking to create a caring and healing environment for me.
