During a nursing executive town hall meeting, the focus of why nurses choose to work at Piedmont Healthcare became the topic of discussion. It was then that a fellow Piedmont Nurse leader recognized Sandy Cherry for the selfless act of stopping at the scene of an accident to assist an elderly woman. Sandy did not know that this was the mother of a nurse colleague and of course, the colleague could not believe that Sandy stopped in the dark and on the side of the road to help. But then the colleague saw Sandy's white coat and stated she worked at Piedmont Fayette and asked them if there was anything she could do to help. The nurse that told the story stated, "she truly was an uplifting presence at a time of great distress and it meant the world to my mother and I that she stopped to help". This is just one example of Sandy's integrity, compassion, extraordinary care and representation of Piedmont Nursing. Her nursing does not stop when sheleaves the building, instead, it expands to our community.
