I want to acknowledge the amazing work that Sandy and Shelby are doing in the PICU. I was consulted on a patient today and just got off the phone with that patient’s mother. She repeatedly referred to both these nurses as “phenomenal.” She gave many examples of the compassionate and professional care given to her daughter, but maybe even more so how these nurses have encouraged and empowered this mother to participate in the care. She says she is able to sleep peacefully when she knows these nurses are on.

One comment she made was that she thinks when they give baths, she thinks they do a better job of cleaning her daughter than her daughter did herself when she was well! This mother prioritized “care, honesty, and trust” as the things most important to her and repeatedly stated how Shelby and Sandy exemplify that.
