Sandy demonstrates caring and compassion by staying in constant communication with students after they graduate to ensure they get the NCLEX scheduled and develop a plan for their studies. Students comment that Sandy believes in them and encourages them.
Sandy Nease is a staunch advocate for remediating students. Sandy assesses their attitude, support, and self-confidence. She encourages them to utilize coping mechanisms, scheduling, available support, and setting boundaries with family and friends regarding time constraints. She ensures they have the contact information for Student Wellness and encourages the confidential use of those services. Sandy demonstrates caring and compassion by staying in constant communication with students after they graduate to ensure they get the NCLEX scheduled and develop a plan for their studies. Students comment that Sandy believes in them and encourages them. Students respond to Sandy with news that they pass NCLEX and pass on their appreciation to Sandy for her support, caring, and compassion. You will read in Sandy's letter from her peers that this is normal for Sandy. Her desire to show that she cares for students leads her to deliver excellence in teaching.
Sandy Nease is designated as an ATI Champion. She earned this credential in May 2021 because she felt this would assist her in the remediation of students in the SON program. Since then, Sandy has researched and completed continuing nursing education on the topic of remediation to further her knowledge and skills. Student remediation is a passion of Sandy's and she works with other faculty as needed for student remediation. Sandy is currently researching this topic, including the psychosocial effects of remediation, with plans to write and publish on this topic. She has worked with a team to research and publish on teaching and providing spiritual issues to students. Students comment that Sandy does an amazing job, that she checks in on students and their mental health often, and encourages students while also having high expectations before students transitioning into practice.
Sandy has served on the board of directors for Texas Nurses Association District 18 in the role of Program & Event Planner since August 2021. While in service of this committee, Sandy worked on the Planning Committee for the South Plains Great 25 Nurses Celebration for 2022. Sandy's leadership led to the planning of a CNE offering for the nursing community titled "Impact of the Pandemic on the Well-Being of Nurses- Where Do We Go From Here?". While in service to TTUHSC, Sandy has worked with the IPE team in planning and presenting learning opportunities to Interprofessional students at TTUHSC regarding team-building, problem-based learning, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
