She humanized his results in a way we could understand them and told us our decision to redirect life was a true form of love, and that’s really what helped me get through the trauma and guilt.
Sandy was truly an amazing soul. From making sure E had the best onesie to making sure his tape was in the shape of a heart on his face. She answered all of our questions and sat with us for long periods of time, either talking about E or sharing life stories, so we felt like we were more than patients. She was very in tune with our fears and answered questions before we asked. She advocated for us to get to hold our baby as soon as possible by calling all the necessary teams over and over to get him unhooked. She spoke so highly of E that he felt like one of her own. Sandy was with us when we got the worst news of our lives and that we would have to redirect care after seeing his brain damage. She also got to see the MRI and helped us understand the depth of damage. She immediately put up screens so we could be alone with our baby and made sure we could hold him right away. She brought in a chair and sat with me while I held my baby and cried. She humanized his results in a way we could understand them and told us our decision to redirect life was a true form of love, and that’s really what helped me get through the trauma and guilt. I will never forget her and the extra love she showed our E.
