My sister-in-law had stage 4breast cancer over 20 years ago. Seven years later, it metastasized to her brain and the fluid around her heart. She has dealt with radiation to the brain several different times, and long term chemotherapy until it started destroying all her good organs. My sister-in-law was a very active and sweet lady. Now, due to scar tissue from the radiation, she has dementia, lots of confusion, and is very feeble before her age time.
She recently broke her hip and had to have surgery. While on 2North, I stayed with her two nights. During this time, Sandy was exceptional. She came in numerous times to make sure she hadn't wet the bed. When she did, Sandy never made her feel uncomfortable about it. Sandy went above and beyond to make sure I didn't need anything during the nights I stayed. She offered at 6 am to get her up in the chair in order to get her motivated and awake before breakfast. I could hear they were busy all night long with other patients, but it never reflected in her attitude, compassion or job performance.
