When we were new to town and pregnant with twins nine years ago, we needed to find health care providers who could pay special attention to our twins' needs. After a recommendation, we interviewed a doctor and subsequently selected her as our kids' primary care physician. Little did we know that our decision to choose Dr. Hillery, herself an amazing professional, would also welcome such a remarkable nurse into our family. Sandy Wolf is the epitome of a responsive, compassionate, capable, approachable nurse, but also so much more. She easily manages our kids medical needs, whether by appointment or by phone. She has suggestions for our tough, seemingly unanswerable questions, and answers for our easy, more typical medical situations. She's magic: she has given us solutions for car sickness, constipation, congestion, speech delays, double vision, anxiety. She has been a shoulder to cry on (many times!). She has helped us navigate the hospital and clinics system. She has held our hand, both literally and figuratively. She has challenged us. She has encouraged us. She has supported us. She has been our advocate, our front-line responder, our medical encyclopedia, our nurse, our friend. Our family is so grateful to the UW Health community for the excellent care our family has received, working with dozens of specialists and at times frequent medical appointments. We consider ourselves so lucky to have Dr. Hillery as our kids' physician. But perhaps luckiest we feel because we have Sandy Wolf on our team. In the last nine years, she's truly become part of our family. For that reason and so many others, we nominate her for the UWHC DAISY Award.
