An oncology patient suffered acute kidney injury due to her complicated, chemotherapy breast cancer treatment. Due to the busy Thanksgiving week, IV fluids could be accommodated by our infusion center and an emergency room visit would be the only option. Medically, it was felt that a delay in care would put the patient's renal function at risk for decline. Mrs. Coleman, despite being assigned to non-infusion duties and having personal obligations, stepped up and assisted with my patient's care. This resulted in an immediate reversal of volume depletion and an excellent outcome. Mrs. Coleman's outstanding care, skills, and kindness, allowed us to maintain my patient's health and safety. I commend Mrs. Coleman's kindness and dedication to patient care.
