I was never made to feel I was merely an “illness.” Rather I was treated as a person with a brain and a heart and a rousing sense of humor. I remember so many kindnesses but one incident stands out. On Valentines Day I asked the staff to notify the nurses station that I “simply couldn’t accept any more flowers or chocolates as I didn’t have any more room…” We had a funny moment and a bit of laughter. Then, Sara, my nurse appeared with silk yellow roses in a vase, “Look P, you got flowers!” I thanked Sara profusely. I was really touched that she would take the effort to visit the gift shop to put a smile on my face. She deserves acknowledgment for her sweetness and generosity!
