My 52 year old husband was hospitalized in April at St. Mary's. During that time he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and severe vertebral fractures. We went home for five days and were readmitted with complications in May. It was a couple days after that my husband was in the skilled and compassionate hands of Sara. Sara took the time to learn my husband's personality, and then used the perfect blend of doing her job and humor to put him at ease and feel comfortable with his care.
But the real reason Sara is my Guardian Angel is what Sara did for me. My husband's new diagnosis and hospitalizations were turning my world upside down. Not only was I stressed trying to absorb all of this information, but so were our children and parents. Sara was the first person to advocate for me. She was the one who took a moment to look me in the eye and ask how I was doing. When I was near melt down, it was Sara who sat down with my children and me to give us as many answers as she could. She communicated to my children the ways they could best support me. With many health care professionals in our family, we realized we were looking for more information and deeper explanations of my husband's care. Sare explained this to our doctors, and they responded.
