With Sara's leadership and dedication, our Professional Governance program has grown and flourished into a robust and productive program with significant staff participation, completing impactful initiatives and inspiring and training future leaders.
Sara has been one phenomenal leader throughout this past year for me personally and to the entire Nursing Services. She exemplifies all qualities of a DAISY Nurse Leader, and I couldn't think of anyone that is more deserving of this award. Sara is also incredibly compassionate and understanding, always taking the time to listen to everyone and never hesitating to provide guidance and support when needed. Her positivity and enthusiasm are contagious, and she has a way of motivating and inspiring everyone around her, even when she doesn't realize it. In addition to her leadership skills, Sara is also an excellent nurse, with a wealth of knowledge and experience that she is always willing to share with others. She is dedicated to continuous learning and improvement and encourages all to do the same. I feel privileged to have Sara as a leader and mentor, and I am grateful for all that she does to support and uplift all of Nursing. She truly deserves to be recognized for her outstanding leadership and the positive impact she has on everyone she works with. Sara is beyond humble, and her enthusiasm is immeasurable. She ensures to take the time to recognize and nominate everyone for their participation and accomplishments so that no one goes unnoticed. That in turn has resulted in her being highly respected by all and easily approachable. Just a few examples that her leadership has shined in the restructuring of our new Professional Governance model, AONL Conference, and our new Professional Practice Model edition. The successes and accomplishments of these projects is beyond measurable and couldn't have been done without her. But she likes to recognize others for those instead of taking the credit that she deserves for her leadership. It's time for her to be recognized for all that she does for us as individuals and our hospital. Thank you, Sara, for being such a phenomenal leader and role model in nursing services. I can honestly say that I wouldn't be in the role that I am today without you, as my professional mentor and the guidance you display.

I would like to nominate Sara Niebuhr from our NEAR department for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. What makes a good leader? It is not just a person in a position of leadership that tells people to do tasks or enforces rules. A leader is a person who empowers and inspires others. A leader is a person who leads change and shares their vision with others to allow others to make change. It is these qualities that Sara embodies in her role at UTMB. As we came out of COVID, our Professional Governance program struggled to maintain the vigor it was prior to COVID. Our program needed direction, reorganization, and guidance. The director of the NEAR Dept. and Sara started a core group of clinicians on a path of reorganization well over two years ago. Sara was chosen as director of this reorganization.
With Sara's leadership and dedication, our Professional Governance program has grown and flourished into a robust and productive program with significant staff participation, completing impactful initiatives and inspiring and training future leaders. Sara demonstrates immeasurable passion and enthusiasm for Professional Governance and staff development. Her enthusiasm and passion are infectious and inspire all around her. She is fair and equitable while maintaining empathy for staff struggling with professional development.

I would like to nominate Sara from the NEAR department. Her dedication to the revamped professional governance structure is unparalleled. She has been the most amazing resource to those involved in the hospital-level councils. I am new to chairing a council, and Sara has gone out of her way to assist me when I need guidance, and that has been often. She is professional, extremely approachable, and completely invested in helping all nurses realize that they are professionals who should have a voice in making the decisions that affect their practice at UTMB. She escorted a group to the AONL conference in Denver this past year and helped to make it a very memorable event. After returning home, she has continued to follow up with us and ensure that we utilize the things we learned, and she is helping us prepare to share with others. She is so engaging and fun to be around and has the ability to create excitement about the things she feels passionate about. Her focus is helping nurses to the best of her ability, and I feel strongly that she would be the person who is most deserving of this award.

Sara is a champion for nurses hospital-wide. She is humble and is the most positive person I know. She leads by example, never expecting anyone to do anything she hasn't or wouldn't do herself. Sara encourages everyone she comes in contact with to always push forward and stretch themselves to grow while also making sure they have the tools to do so. She is the embodiment of leadership.
