July 2026 Honoree
Sara Gros, BSN, RN
I would like to recognize Sara Gros, an Emergency Department nurse, for the extraordinary care she provided to my father during a difficult time. My father has end-stage pancreatic cancer and presented to the Emergency Department with lethargy, confusion, dehydration, and concern for sepsis.
From the moment Sara assumed his care, it was clear that she combined clinical expertise with genuine compassion in a way that profoundly impacted both my father and our family. Sara expertly managed his workup, completing all orders efficiently and with confidence. She balanced urgency with calm, ensuring that my father received timely, appropriate care while still feeling like more than just a task on a list. Her ability to be light-hearted when the moment allowed, and serious when needed, brought comfort and reassurance during an otherwise frightening experience.
What stood out most was her attentiveness and commitment to my father's dignity and comfort. She responded to every request-no matter how small-with kindness and respect, always anticipating his needs and prioritizing his well-being. Even in a busy emergency department environment, we never felt overlooked.
In addition to providing exceptional patient care, Sarah was also precepting a nursing student. She seamlessly balanced teaching with hands-on care, modeling professionalism, compassion, and clinical excellence.
Her dedication extended beyond the end of her shift. Before leaving, Sara personally called me to provide an update on my father's condition-something that meant more to me than I can fully express. She also ensured continuity of care by asking her night shift colleague to check on him in the ICU. This level of ownership and follow-through is rare and deeply appreciated.
Sara is a gift to the nursing profession. It was evident to me that the care she provided was not exceptional-it is simply who she is as a nurse, every day, with every patient. Because of Sara, a frightening and uncertain experience was met with compassion, professionalism, and humanity.
I am profoundly grateful for her care, and I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.
