If she thought I was not getting enough attention from the MDs, she constantly advocated on my behalf to them.
Probably because of room availability, I was transferred to this Unit following admission by the ED, although I had a non-life-threatening emergency. Sara was the RN on duty and welcomed and assessed me with all the expected skills of an experienced RN. That was only the start. Although my condition appeared to be non-critical at first, it soon progressed to something more troublesome. Even though she had many other responsibilities, it seemed to me, in my whacked-out state, that Sara hardly ever left my side. My condition seemed to vary from hour to hour, and she was right there assessing it. If she thought I was not getting enough attention from the MDs, she constantly advocated on my behalf to them. She kept me fully up to speed on diagnostics and planned interventions. After 5 days under her care, the Cardiac Unit needed their room back, so I was transferred to another unit on another floor. Surprisingly, Sara showed up to check me out at the new location. Although all of staff that I encountered at this hospital were uniformly excellent, and I have no way of knowing for certain, I believe that Sara has far exceeded the standard of care for ordinary RNs.
