I was not sure I was doing the right thing or doing enough to help J, but Sara helped me. I knew she was going to be there for me/us.
Sara was the hospice nurse for my husband J. From the first time we met her I knew she was going to be a great fit for J. The first day she came to our house she knew J.D. was not a person to complain, especially about his pain, but she could see in his face how much pain he was in and immediately called his doctor from our house. Sara got his prescription increased. The fact is that he was in that much pain, and Sara seeing this, gave him comfort and he took his new prescription without any hesitation.
Before Sara came to us, I tried to get his prescription upped, but J would never admit to how much pain he was really in when we went to the doctor. After that first visit, and what she did for him, he was not afraid to tell her anything. J had full faith in Sara, which made his last couple of weeks more comforting for him and me. Sara also called me back quickly when I called the 24-hour number: day, night, weekdays, or even after she worked her late-night shifts on the weekends. I did call quite a bit.
Towards the end of my husband’s life, I was upset a lot. I was not sure I was doing the right thing or doing enough to help J, but Sara helped me. I knew she was going to be there for me/us. I knew when I called for her, she would and did listen to me, and explained to me very carefully what I needed to do to help J especially when I called the night he passed away.
I know most of what I wrote is not quite a story, but Sara is an excellent Hospice Nurse. I have never met someone with more compassion, understanding, and such a caring nature. I know these are traits most of your Hospice Nurses should have, but for Sara, it comes naturally and it shows.
