Sara was the first responder to a horrific moped accident on Folly Road. Sara quickly assessed the situation, called for assistance from bystanders, and began CPR which resulted in the victim's return of spontaneous circulation and breathing. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed later to her injuries. A friend learned of Sara's actions and told Sara that the victim was the daughter of a fellow MUSC nurse. The friend asked if Sara would mind speaking with the mother. Sara arranged to meet with the mother and offered her specific information regarding the accident scene and the care which was administered to the victim. In Sara's quiet and unassuming way, she helped this grieving mother find some comfort knowing that an experienced ICU nurse and mother was there with her daughter during her last minutes of life. While speaking with a parent in such a grief-stricken period of time would have been uncomfortable for anyone, Sara did not hesitate to agree to meet with this mother. Sara's caring and professional manner exemplify what is best about MUSC Nursing and Nurses.
