I was recently at Providence with my mother who underwent knee replacement surgery. We had been waiting 4.5 hours for her to be assigned a room. After inquiring regularly at the nurse's station for any updates or speculation as to room assignment, one nurse stood out. Sara was not my mother's nurse, but could surely see how anxious we were.
Sara was the single individual to take the time to explain the process and assure us that Mom was being well taken care of. That information was invaluable to my family. We were nervous and had waited so long to see our loved one. Information is what we needed to assuage our growing concerns relative to Mom's impending room assignment. Sara understood the importance of keeping us informed from that point forward and took several opportunities to seek us out and calm our fears.
Sara was even kind enough to purchase a Coke for me demonstrating great compassion. Without being asked, she made a seemingly small gesture that spoke volumes as to her character and dedication.
The next day a lovely bouquet of flowers appeared in my mom's hospital room to brighten and cheer her. My mother was delighted to receive the flowers even though at that moment she didn't know who Sara was, but we knew. This gesture indeed meant the world to Mom and our family.
My sincere hope is that you will recognize nurse Sara to the fullest extent possible as she is a genuine reflection of compassion, kindness, dedication, and the Christian spirit.
