Our son W was in a horrific ATV accident over the holiday. The PICU team went above and beyond in exceeding all expectations during this tragic time. Sarah was exceptional in her communication throughout the entire ordeal. We went from receiving the worst news of our lives in that our 15-year-old son was not progressing and would never recover, to being the W we knew and loved, that he probably would never wake up. We were forced to make the hardest decision we've ever had to make taking him off of life support and donating his organs.

Sarah was there for every emotion and patiently explained everything so that we understood even if it took multiple times explaining. She talked to W and explained everything that she was doing as she was doing it. For every medication they gave him, there was an adverse reaction that they would have to compensate for and she never left his side.

I've sat at my son's graveside and watched the flowers on his grave dwindle to nothing in the summer heat. The last flower standing beautifully in all that heat was not the roses or lily it was the DAISY. It takes a special person to do what Sarah does. She took the heat and pressure of caring for my child, the sickest child at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at that time, and did it exceptionally well considering all odds were against us. She not only took care of our sweet W, but she made sure that we as parents were well taken care of. I cannot sing her praises enough. She was a true light in our darkest moments.
