Sarah is a nurse on the Peds Epilepsy/Oncology Unit. Recently, she was caring for a newly diagnosed oncology patient who was experiencing complications. As the charge nurse on duty that day, Sarah made every effort to keep the patients, doctors and family updated on his condition. Unfortunately, we had to rapid response this patient and he was later transferred to PICU. As the charge nurse, I was present in the patient's room during the RRT. Sarah, was very thorough in her description of the patient's condition so that the doctors could provide the best care. She maintained her poise during those stressful moments because she knew that it would result in the best outcome for her patient. I also witnessed the care and concern that she took when addressing the patient's family. She spent a lot of time addressing their concerns and answering questions. She also walked the family over to the PICU so that they could see their son.

Sarah showed her clinical competence as a nurse during this stressful shift, but more importantly, she made this patient and his family feel like they were her top priority. She gave 100% of her energy and effort and showed genuine compassion. Sarah truly exhibits the elements of the DAISY Award and I feel that she is most deserving of this honor.
