May 2015 Honoree
sarah barnes, RN, BSN
We received a call from our department's volunteer letting us know that he would not be in on Tuesday because he had been admitted to MHTW ICU. We wanted to visit him and asked permission of the patient, but he declined that morning until he could get cleaned up. I called up to the unit and eventually connected with his nurse, Sarah, to explain the situation. She ensured me that she would go in and shave him. By the time we visited him the patient was shaven and in great spirits.
Sarah's quick attention and pleasant response to her patient and our department's request are DAISY Award material. She met the criteria and was flexible by stopping what she was doing to meet the need of a patient. She works well with all members of the healthcare team and demonstrated a caring and positive attitude.

Thank you, Sarah, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
