Sarah had a patient yesterday who had family and was end of life. The patient was taken off the vent and the family did not stay to the patient's death. Sarah took time to sit with the patient, play soft music, and hold the patient's hand. She didn't have to do this. The unit was very busy and the staff picked up her slack so she was able to stay with the patient letting her know someone was with her for her last breaths. True leadership and compassion fill our ICU.
