One nurse, Sarah Calvert came in that morning and told me how to breathe and after I did these breathing exercises she told me to look over at the monitor and my heart rate had increased a little bit.
When I was admitted to the hospital thru the ER my heart rate at 28/32 beats per minute, I was in CHF! They finally admitted me and they started a medication to speed up my heart rate but it never did! After about 2 hours I was moved to the ICU Unit! There I met some of the greatest nurses. I felt I had been sent there to die! They changed my medication to increase my heart rate.
One nurse, Sarah Calvert came in that morning and told me how to breathe and after I did these breathing exercises she told me to look over at the monitor and my heart rate had increased a little bit. However, they did an Echo Cardiogram and a Temporary Pacemaker that day which I did fine with. They got my heart rate up to 67 beats a minute. Their plan was to do a permanent pacemaker the next day.
On Wednesday at around 11:30, they began to prep me for the procedure and I was so ready. We went down and they started the procedure at about noon. However, with the same sedation as the day before, things went wrong! I had a severe reaction! It took 5/6 guys to hold me on the table while they did my procedure. Then when they brought me back to the ICU Unit, Sarah was there for me and my wife. They had a rough afternoon I am told! I did not know is what was going on but I am told I did not want to stay in the bed or do anything I was told to do!
But my wife said Sarah was so patient with me! She took exceptionally good care of me thru this time of me coming off this medication! She stayed right beside my bedside and took care of me to be sure the puncture wound did not bleed and could seal off, and that I did not use my left arm after having the pacemaker implanted. She is an exceptional Nurse! She was my Angel during my stay in ICU! During my “critical” time she was always by my bedside! Sarah is definitely an asset to the nursing staff of Augusta Health!
Also while I was there, she also made sure that my wife had whatever she needed as she was right there with me the entire time! She was so good to her also! She is an example of what all nurses should follow! Sarah, again thank you for the care you gave!
