She treated him with respect, grace, and humility to ensure his dignity was intact.
My grandfather, R, was admitted in January. Sarah cared for him on and off over the course of his stay. She was extremely helpful. On every visit, she took the time to communicate with the family and answer any questions. She greeted family members by name, she always took time to make sure we understood what procedures had taken place, if any, and she always clarified anything we didn't grasp. Never once did she show any signs of weariness or being annoyed by family questions. She was extremely patient and kind to my Pap and the family. Her genuine care and concern about my Pap were evident when she returned from a few days off, and she noticed immediately the decline in his health. She showed just as much concern as if it was her own grandfather. She took time to read reports, explained what was happening, and discussed with us the pros and cons of palliative care. Before she left her shift each day, she made sure he was comfortable, if he needed anything, if the family had questions, and she would see to it that he was properly situated and comfortable. She treated him with compassion. She made sure she communicated and spoke to him directly. While he was struggling to express himself, she was very patient and never rushed his speech. She knew he was mentally capable of expressing himself, he just required a little more time to get his words out. She treated him with respect, grace, and humility to ensure his dignity was intact. It was comforting knowing when we left him, he was in good hands and being treated kindly. He passed in February, and it was nice knowing he was given outstanding care by Sarah.
