Sarah Cordes is always demonstrating compassionate, consistent care!! A patient’s case had been delayed, and she had a lengthy procedure completed. Afterward, the patient had to be admitted due to complications. While in recovery, the patient kept talking about how hungry she was and that she would love pot roast and veggies. A diet order took a while to be obtained. By the time the diet order was obtained, dietary said it was too late to order a meal, and they would soon be leaving for the day. The patient was unable to get a warm, cooked meal; a meal that she had been longing for while being at the hospital since 11 am and being NPO since midnight. Sarah stayed with the patient while being the on-call RN. After getting an inpatient bed, Sarah was able to go home. Well, it just so happened that she had a pot roast waiting in the crockpot at home. Sarah went out of her way to make the patient a plate and bring it back to the patient, brightening her long, eventful day. I couldn’t think of a better person to earn the DAISY Award for her compassionate care!!
