I am the mother of a medically fragile little boy. He was born here at the University of Chicago. During his two years we have had many, many hospital stays. We come in, find the problem at hand and work to fix it as a team. This visit, however, I have felt very frustrated that we were not finding the problem with my son.
I was having a very frustrating day and our wonderful nurse, Sarah, not only gave superior care to my son, but was there to listen to me as well. She offered me hope in a time I felt alone and somewhat angry. She gave me many hugs that day. Two days later, she stopped in to check on us and I asked why she was not in our room. She explained to me that she was the charge that day, but would continue to look in on us. I finally feel that we are on the right track and hopefully soon will be able to go home. Sarah not only took excellent care of my tiny fella, but she took care of me! By taking a few minutes to just listen to a mom that has no medical training, but knows her son we were able to get the ball moving in the right direction. At a time that I felt like I was going to lose my mind, Sarah was there for me. I could never thank her enough! This is why I'm nominating her, a good nurse helps the patient, a GREAT nurse worries about the parents of the sick child that feels helpless too. Thank you Sarah!!
